Materials & Care
Every Maison Pupa piece is made from genuine materials chosen for how they age, not just how they photograph. With the right care, they're built to be worn for years — through walks, seasons, and everyday life alongside your dog. Here's how to look after them properly.
Velvet
Velvet is a directional pile fabric, which means its color can appear lighter or darker depending on the angle it's viewed from and which way the nap is brushed — this is a natural characteristic, not a flaw. With gentle handling, velvet develops a soft, lived-in richness over time rather than wearing out.
- Spot clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth
- Brush gently in one direction to lift the pile after cleaning
- Store away from direct sunlight to preserve color depth
- Machine wash or submerge in water
- Use bleach or harsh chemical cleaners
- Fold sharply at the same crease repeatedly
Gold-Tone Hardware
Buckles, D-rings, clasps, and charms are finished in a warm, gold-tone plating, chosen to complement each piece without the weight or cost of solid gold. Like any fine plated finish, it's designed to hold up well to normal handling, but benefits from a little care to keep its polish over time.
- Wipe with a soft, dry cloth to maintain shine
- Remove before swimming or bathing
- Apply perfume or grooming products before fastening hardware, not after
- Use jewelry polish or abrasive cleaners
- Expose to chlorine or saltwater
- Store in humid conditions for extended periods
Genuine Stones
Each centerpiece stone — amethyst, red agate, lapis lazuli, rose quartz, or tiger eye, depending on the piece — is a genuine cabochon, hand-set into its bezel. As natural stones, variation in color, banding, and pattern between individual pieces is normal and part of what makes each one one-of-a-kind rather than mass-produced.
- Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth
- Check the setting periodically if your dog is a heavy chewer
- Store away from direct heat or prolonged sunlight
- Soak in water or cleaning solution
- Allow unsupervised chewing near the stone or bezel
- Use ultrasonic or steam jewelry cleaners
Rope & Leash Materials
Our leashes pair a velvet handle with a premium braided cotton rope body. The rope is bound to withstand regular handling and light weather exposure, but like any natural fiber, it will show wear differently than synthetic materials — which is part of its character.
- Air dry fully if the rope gets wet before storing
- Spot clean the velvet handle as needed
- Coil loosely rather than folding tightly when storing
- Machine wash or tumble dry
- Store while damp
- Leave coiled tightly in the same shape for extended periods
General Storage
When not in use, store your Maison Pupa pieces flat or loosely coiled, ideally in the original presentation box or a soft pouch, away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. Avoid storing alongside items with rough hardware or zippers that could snag the velvet or scratch the plating.
Everyday Wear
Maison Pupa pieces are designed as fine accessories for everyday elegance, light lead use, and special occasions — not for rugged outdoor activity, off-leash play, digging, or swimming. For high-energy days, we recommend a more utilitarian collar and reserving your Maison Pupa piece for the moments it deserves to be seen.
